Latheefa Koya’s appointment as MACC chief yesterday came as a shock to many, including cabinet ministers and Pakatan Harapan lawmakers.<br /><br />Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad admitted today that he had not consulted his ministers and made the call himself as he was a fan of the experienced lawyer’s straightforward character.<br /><br />Asked if it was his intention to surprise everyone with the news, Mahathir agreed.<br /><br />Pressed if this was to keep his cabinet members on their toes, Mahathir again agreed.<br /><br />“Well, they cannot be complacent and think whatever they think will be approved,” he quipped.
