Two brave teenagers battled the flames from a brushfire to save a wild turtle in a farmer's field in Chachoengsao, central Thailand, on June 1.

While they were pouring water on the flames, they noticed a tiny turtle trying to escape the intense heat. The lads eventually fought back the fire and managed to grab the turtle, which had suffered a burned shell and was hot from the intensity of the fire.

Firefighters arrived and they said that the turtle was still alive, but should be placed back in the water to help the creature cool down.

Footage shows the turtle floating in a small pond next to the fire.

Fireman Khun Natthaphong said: ''The area where the turtle was sheltering was severely burned. The turtle had suffered a damaged shell but he was still alive. It was released back into the water to recover.''
