The man in a viral video seen worshipping a statue of a deity known as "Datuk Gong" while wearing a Muslim skullcap and sarong, has been detained by police after he surrendered himself at the Kerian district police headquarters (IPD) in Perak on Monday.<br /><br />Based on preliminary reports, the 43-year-old fisherman is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.<br /><br />Section 298A pertains to any act prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony between different religious or racial groups, and which disturbs, or is likely to disturb the public tranquillity.<br /><br />According to the police, the man isn't Malay.
