Facebook Creates 'Study'<br />App to Track Users' Data The social media giant is paying participants<br />to share their data in a new attempt<br />to learn about people’s mobile app usage. Their new “Study” app will collect information such<br />as what apps are installed, how much time is being<br />spent on those apps and what devices are being used. Facebook confirmed that information such as user<br />IDs, passwords and messages will not be collected. The app is not downloadable to everyone, as<br />participants are being chosen by Facebook and<br />provided with an invitation link to the app. Facebook will run ads on its platform and elsewhere,<br />which will allow people to provide details about<br />themselves to determine their eligibility. No specifics have been provided<br />as to how chosen participants will<br />receive their compensation. Facebook previously shut down a similar application<br />in January 2019 called “Facebook Research,”<br />which had been paying users for data since 2016.
