Watch as scientists explain in detail how the tiles used to protect NASA's spacecraft are made and how much they cost.<br /><br />Footage shows various employees going through the process needed in order to make the tiles at John F. Kennedy Space Center in Titusville, Florida.<br /><br />One employee demonstrates the extreme heat the tiles can withstand by holding a blowtorch on the substance for almost 30 seconds. <br /><br />According to one of the employees in the video, depending on the purity and density an individual tile can cost between $500 and $5000.<br /><br />This video was filmed in August 2015.
