Suicide, Overdose <br />Rates Are Soaring in the US The new report released <br />by the Commonwealth Fund <br />looked at 47 sets of data <br />from 2017 in all 50 states. It found that "deaths <br />of despair" have <br />increased nationally. Such deaths include suicide, <br />drug overdose and death <br />caused by alcohol consumption. The report also finds <br />striking regional differences <br />pertaining to deaths of despair. The mid-Atlantic states — <br />West Virginia, Ohio and <br />Pennsylvania — showed the <br />highest rates of drug overdose. From 2005 to 2017, <br />overdose death rates in <br />West Virginia rose by 450%. David Radley, scientist, NBC News Nebraska, Montana<br />the Dakotas, Wyoming <br />and Oregon had the highest <br />rates of alcohol deaths and suicide.
