Marijuana Use Increasing<br />Among Pregnant Women A study from the medical journal JAMA has<br />revealed that more pregnant women are using<br />marijuana, especially in the first trimester. The percentage of pregnant women using<br />marijuana increased from 3.4% in 2002 to 7% in 2017. Pregnant women also consistently reported<br />more medical marijuana use in the first trimester<br />than in later trimesters. Study authors,<br />via CNN The CDC states that most birth defects occur in the first trimester when organs are still forming. According to the study, the effects of marijuana<br />on fetal growth could be "more pronounced in<br />women who consume marijuana frequently,<br />especially in first and second trimesters."
