Residents in New York City commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising today (June 28).<br /><br />Footage captured yesterday (June 27) shows people queuing to enter Stonewall Inn, where members of the gay community fought back in a six-night riot against a police raid in the pub fifty years ago.<br /><br />Some people stayed in the park in front of the pub, where statues of same-sex couple had been installed as well as a rainbow piano. <br /><br />Many local businesses added rainbow flags to their windows to celebrate this historic event.<br /><br />Stonewall riots have been defined by the LGBTQ community as a turning point in the global fight for queer liberation and civil rights.
