Hundreds of officers of the NYPD lined the streets of Astoria, New York to give an emotional farewell to their former colleague and 9/11 first responder, Luis Alvarez.

The funeral was held yesterday (July 3) after Alvarez passed away after a three-year fight with colorectal cancer at a hospice on June 29.

Alvarez claimed his cancer was caused by being exposed to harmful substances after digging through the rubble at ground zero.

Since the attacks on the twin towers, Alvarez had campaigned for the victims who are still suffering the effects of that day.
