Tesla is attempting to develop its own battery cells, CNBC's Lora Kolodny reported, citing five current and recent employees.<br />Tesla is reportedly creating designs and prototypes for lithium-ion battery cells.<br />Business Insider and CNBC refers to the lab "skunkworks lab."<br />It is located near its Fremont, California, factory.<br />Tesla is also developing the equipment and methods needed to manufacture the cells, according to CNBC.<br />Tesla is reportedly unlikely to end its relationship with Panasonic, its battery-cell supplier, in the near future. <br />
