Legendary Boxer <br />Pernell Whitaker Dead at 55 Pernell Whitaker was reportedly killed on July 14,<br />in Virginia Beach, Virginia, after being hit by a car<br />while walking at an intersection. Officials were called to the scene<br />at 10:04 p.m. and Whitaker died<br />of his injuries shortly after. It's not clear whether the driver that<br />hit Whitaker was arrested, but police <br />are still investigating the incident. Whitaker was well known for his boxing<br />career from 1984 to 2001, having only<br />lost four of his 40 matches. He won a gold medal at the 1984<br />Summer Olympics and was a<br />four-weight world champion. He was also inducted into<br />the International Boxing Hall<br />of Fame in 2007. Whitaker is survived<br />by his five children.
