Europe melts under Sahara heat wave, smashes heat records

Western Europe is sweltering under an intense heat wave for the ages, with record all-time high temperatures being broken over and over again.<br />For more on this and other news from around the world, let's turn to our Hong Yoo.<br />So Yoo, what countries are we talking about here and how are they coping?<br /><br />Well Connyoung, countries in Western Europe such as Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany smashed all-time temperature records on Thursday afternoon because of this heatwave.<br />Belgium topped all-time records twice on the same day, with the mercury touching 40-point-7 degrees Celsius.<br />Northern Germany set a new national temperature record at least three times Thursday with the highest hitting 42-point-6 degrees Celsius.<br />This second heat wave of the month arrived from the Sahara Desert as its cauldron of hot air was pushed up north by high pressure into the European continent.<br />Climate scientists warn this could become the new normal as a result of global warming from greenhouse gas emissions.<br />In attempts to deal with the sizzling weather, Europeans and tourists were seen jumping into fountains, lakes, rivers and the sea.<br />The heatwave is worse for them to deal with as many countries in Europe do not have air conditioning installed indoors.<br />Under heat alerts, governments are advising people to stay indoors and well hydrated.<br />
