Hong Kong police have fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters in an area near China's liaison office.<br /><br />Tens of thousands of mostly young people have been protesting in the Sai Wan and Causeway Bay areas of Hong Kong Island, although some have now gone home, leaving a smaller numbers of more hard-core activists.<br /><br />The protest near the liaison office in Sai Wan, shown here, has seen the most violent clashes.<br /><br />The protests have been going on for almost two months, initially over a planned extradition deal with mainland China, but now over Beijing's control of Hong Kong more broadly.
