One person was killed and around 1,200 people left homeless after a huge fire in an informal settlement in Cape Town.<br /><br />The fire destroyed hundreds of shacks in the Masiphumelele settlement in Kommetjie, Cape Town, South Africa.<br /><br />It began shortly after midnight on Monday 29 July, and raged for several hours.<br /><br />Community leader Maswazi Nkosi said "maybe thousands" had been affected by the blaze.
