A suspected bomb sparked chaos in Bangkok this afternoon after being dumped outside the city's police headquarters.<br /><br />The suspicious device was left on the packed Rama 1 road in the centre of the capital at 5.35pm local time.<br /><br />Bomb disposal experts arrived and found a crisps tube and electronics with ball bearings inside but it did not have any explosive material and was not sophisticated enough to detonate. <br /><br />Witnesses said there had been a ''green flashing light'' seen on the device.<br /><br />CCTV showed a young man in a yellow shirt placing the device outside the Royal Thai Police headquarters at 5.35pm local time.<br /><br />Further footage shows the crude homemade bomb device.<br /><br />Roads in the area were closed causing traffic chaos. While the monorail outside the building was closed for commuters, leaving hundreds stranded on the platform.<br /><br />Colonel Kritsana Pattanacharoen, deputy spokesman from the Royal Thai Police, said: ''We found a tube used for snacks but inside there was nothing that could cause an explosion. <br /><br />''The suspect might only want to have caused panic. <br /><br />''There was a small number of ball bearings in both boxes. There were two boxes in different places and both were in front of the police department.<br /><br />''The area was closed and bomb disposal experts made the area secure.''
