US Is Preparing Withdrawal <br />of Thousands of Troops <br />From Afghanistan The troop withdrawal would <br />come as part of negotiations <br />between the Trump <br />Administration and the Taliban. The initial deal to end the <br />18-year-long war would result <br />in a cease-fire and see the <br />Taliban renounce al-Qaeda. Currently, there <br />are 14,000 American <br />troops in Afghanistan. If approved, the deal <br />would cut that number <br />to between 8,000 and 9,000.
