S. Korea discuss whether to remove Japan from whitelist, results not released on Thursday

韓, 백색국가서 日배제 첫 논의…발표는 일단 연기<br /><br />South Korea's Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon convened a closed-door meeting on Thursday to go over measures against Japan's latest export restrictions.<br />Top officials discussed for the first time whether to take Japan off South Korea's so-called whitelist of preferential trading partners.<br />Detailed results, however, were not released today.<br />Currently, Japan is benefiting from a simplified inspection process, but if the exclusion from the whitelist takes place, Japanese firms will have to go through stricter export regulations for strategic materials.<br />A government official said relevant ministers will gather again in the near future to fine-tune details.<br />
