Iran says it hopes South Korea will not join a U.S.-led military coalition for maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. <br /> This according to an Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson in an interview with Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency... which came after defense talks were held between Seoul and Washington last Friday. <br />During that meeting, U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper asked for Seoul's cooperation to ensure freedom of navigation in the strait.<br />This is the first time... Iran has mentioned South Korea regarding the matter,… asking it to take a neutral stance rather than intervening. <br />The spokesperson also noted that Iran and South Korea have enjoyed very good diplomatic relations... and it does not want ties to sour. <br />
