A monument for Korean independence activist Choi Jae-hyung was unveiled in Russia on Monday in front of his former residence.<br />Choi fought against Japan's colonial rule of Korea while living in Russia.<br />He sold supplies to the Russian military to fund Korean independence fighters in Russia.<br />He also founded 30 schools in Russia and supported another well-known independence movement activist Ahn Jung-guen by providing the pistol Ahn used to assassinate Hirobumi Ito, the first Japanese governor-general to the Korean Peninsula.<br />The monument is in the shape of the Korean Peninsula and the words 'Spirit of Patriotism, Star for the People, Choi Jae-hyung' are engraved on it.<br />
