New Zealand Collects Over 10,000 Firearms From Buyback Program.<br />Following a mass shooting in March in the <br />city of Christchurch, a ban was placed on <br />military-style semi-automatic weapons.<br />The incident at two mosques committed by a lone gunman <br />left 51 people dead.<br />Those who possessed newly banned weapons have since been ordered to <br />sell them back to the government.<br />Since the buyback program started <br />last month, approximately <br />10,242 firearms have been collected.<br />According to 'The Guardian,' those who possess a weapon that is now banned have until December 20 to give it up.<br />Failure to do so could result in a <br />prison sentence of up to five years.<br />Up to 1.5 million firearms are believed to be within New Zealand's borders
