Protests in Hong Kong Cause<br />Second Day of Flight Cancelations Protests at the Hong Kong International<br />Airport began on August 9 and have<br />continued consecutively for five days. Thousands of protesters are gathered in the halls<br />of the airport, using luggage trolleys to block custom<br />checkpoints and strand passengers inside. The airport was forced to cancel flights on<br />August 12 and again on August 13, as check-in<br />operations were suspended due to the protests. Protester Vanessa Lee, via ’The Guardian’ Protesters are believed to have targeted the airport<br />because they do not think police will attempt to clear it due to the number of passengers and <br />tourists inside. Hong Kong’s police have been accused of using<br />increasingly excessive force, with at least 40 people<br />requiring medical treatment after clashes on <br />August 11.
