Eating Plant-Based Foods
Decreases Risk for Heart Disease.
For results, data was analyzed on just over 12,100 men and women who
had taken part in a study called 'Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities.'.
In it, they revealed the size portions
of their meals and what they
typically eat and drank.
None of the participants, who were between
45 and 64 years old, had reported signs of
heart disease when taking part in the study.
Starting in 1987, subjects were then checked up on from time to time
for nearly 20 years.
Data was collected on how many participants died throughout this time and how many others
developed cardiovascular issues.
Researchers went on to find that those with plant-based food plans, had a
16% less risk of having heart issues.
They also had a 32% less chance of dying from a cardiovascular-related problem.
Researchers based these diets on those who consumed 4.1 to 4.8 servings of
fruit and vegetables on a daily basis.
Results from our study suggest that progressively increasing the intake of plant foods by reducing the intake of animal foods is associated with benefits on cardiovascular health and mortality risk, Study authors, via report.
The study can be found in the 'Journal of the American Heart Association.'.
