Thousands of residents evacuated as severe floods hit the Philippines

Residents in the Philippines were forced to evacuate their homes after two days of non-stop rainstorms caused heavy flooding.<br /><br />More than 3,000 people in Pantukan, Compostela Valley province in the south of the country were evacuated following the deluge.<br /><br />Footage shows how locals were stranded outside as floodwaters gushed through the properties a few moments after they went out to the market on August 13.<br /><br />Local Yurikel Odac said that it was the worst flooding he can remember. He said: "We just went out to get supplies quickly. We can't cross because of the current, that would be dangerous."<br /><br />The flooding affected hundreds of families with more than 3,000 displaced residents evacuated to a local sports hall and other public buildings.<br /><br />Kent Simeon of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said that 17 houses were destroyed.<br /><br />The villages of Kingking, Matiao, Bongbong, Fuentes, Tambongon and Napnapan were severely affected with flooding that went as high as four feet.
