President Trump says he doesn't want to see the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong met with violence by China.<br />Speaking before boarding Air Force One for New Hampshire on Thursday,... he said he "wouldn't want to see a violent crackdown."<br />He added his belief that Chinese President Xi Jinping should take the extra step of sitting down with Hong Kong protesters as a way to calm the situation.<br />On Wednesday, Trump proposed on Twitter that President Xi has a face-to-face meeting with the protesters to help resolve the crisis.<br />China flatly rejected Trump's proposal, also slamming his remark that he hopes Beijing would humanely deal with the protesters in Hong Kong.<br />Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesperson, Hua Chunying, said on Thursday that "Hong Kong affairs are entirely China's internal affairs.<br />The spokesperson noted Trump's previous comments that "Hong Kong is a part of China and that they'll have to deal with that themselves."<br />
