Farmers race against each powering their tractors through paddy fields at a colourful festival.<br /><br />The annual rice planting festival celebrating Mother's Day took place in Sukhothai, northern Thailand on Monday (August 12) afternoon.<br /><br />The high-octane race was organised to boost attendance and encourage youngsters to become more interested in agriculture.<br /><br />Fortunately, the idea was successful and turned the rice planting festival into the highlight of the region's celebrations. <br /><br />Sukhothai mayor Mitree Tritilanunt, 58, took part in the races and warded the trophy to the winner at the end of the event.<br /><br />He said: "The race was a great idea, so many people came to enjoy the race. We can teach the young people all about farming culture.''
