‘Maisel Day’ in Los Angeles
Offers 1950s-Inspired Prices As part of an Emmy campaign for the Amazon
show 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,' nearly 30
businesses marked down their prices on Aug. 15. 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' is currently
nominated for 20 Emmy awards. Ranging from hair salons to gas stations, ‘Maisel
Day’ was a city-wide event that allowed people to
experience prices and aesthetics from 1959. Tickets at the Bay Theatre, which usually
cost up to $23, were sold for 51 cents. Businesses such as McConnell’s Fine Ice
Creams and Pink’s Hot Dogs sold ice cream
and food for under 60 cents as well. A Chevron gas station in Santa Monica
briefly offered gas at 30 cents a gallon,
before being shut down by police,
due to the traffic it was causing. According to Amazon’s director of awards,
Debra Birnbaum, L.A. was the perfect spot
for the Maisel-inspired marketing stunt. Debra Birnbaum, to ‘Los Angeles Times’
