George R.R. Martin Admits HBO’s
’Game of Thrones’ Slowed Him Down.
In a recent interview with ‘The Observer,’ novelist
George R.R. Martin spoke about the ‘Game of Thrones’
finale and why he considered it “freeing.”.
I don’t think [the TV series] was very good for
me…The very thing that should have speeded
me up actually slowed me down, George R.R. Martin, to ‘The Observer’.
Martin admitted that having to write the HBO series
pulled his focus away from his ‘A Song of Ice and
Fire’ book series, which has yet to be finished. .
Every day I sat down to write and even if
I had a good day … I’d feel terrible because
I’d be thinking: 'My God, I have to finish
the book. I’ve only written four pages when
I should have written 40.’, George R.R. Martin, to ‘The Observer’.
Martin went on to say that although fame has been
good for him, he misses aspects of “the old days.” .
I mean, I can’t go into a bookstore any more,
and that used to be my favorite thing to do in
the world…Now when I go to a bookstore,
I get recognized within 10 minutes and there’s
a crowd around me. So you gain a lot but you
also lose things. , George R.R. Martin, to ‘The Observer’
