South Korea's new light water nuclear reactor has become the first foreign reactor to earn certification for use in the U.S.<br />Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Company announced Tuesday that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has certified Korea's Advanced Power Reactor-1400 model.<br />With the design certificate, the nuclear reactor can be built and operated in the U.S.<br />The certification is expected to give Korea's nuclear power plants a competitive advantage, not just in the U.S., but also in other countries.<br />The APR-1400 has already been exported to the United Arab Emirates and has been in commercial operation in Korea.<br />
