http://bit.ly/IAQquestions To learn the 10 questions you should be asking click the link to access all the videos.<br /><br />00:00 [Music]<br />00:09 the ninth question we get asked all the<br />00:11 time is how do you know my duct systems<br />00:13 leaking or is it leaking depending on<br />00:15 the variation of the the question it's<br />00:19 easy on some duct systems to do a visual<br />00:21 inspection and see that the duct system<br />00:24 is leaking if you have an old metal duct<br />00:26 system that has a yellow fiberglass on<br />00:28 it you'll see black rings every three to<br />00:31 five feet and where you see the elbows<br />00:33 where it turns those 90s and 45s you'll<br />00:35 see black rings around there most people<br />00:38 can easily walk into their garage if<br />00:39 that's where their furnace is located<br />00:41 and they'll see a bunch of black rings<br />00:42 around the ductwork in the garage<br />00:43 what's happening there again is the<br />00:45 venturi effect where there is a high<br />00:47 pressure leak to a low pressure area it<br />00:50 creates a suction so that fiberglass<br />00:52 acts like a filter so the filter in your<br />00:54 home that you're supposed to be changing<br />00:55 every sixty to ninety days is the<br />00:59 fiberglass and that fiberglass turns<br />01:00 black or at least and pulls that air<br />01:03 back in that's an easy way to visually<br />01:05 inspect that the duct system is leaking<br />01:07 on some of the newer duct systems it's<br />01:11 not as easy to see that sometimes you<br />01:13 got to peel back the connections and see<br />01:14 if it's properly affixed to the system<br />01:17 but we have guys that can come out and<br />01:19 actually pressure test the duct system<br />01:20 and tell you what your leak rate is and<br />01:23 what it should be so we can we do it<br />01:26 either way some people want the service<br />01:28 of the guy to come out with all his flow<br />01:30 hoods and it's pressure testing<br />01:31 equipment some people just need the<br />01:32 visual inspection and they can see that<br />01:34 it's leaking put a tissue up to it and<br />01:36 the tissue starts wiggling around it's<br />01:38 you know it's all about just inspecting<br />01:40 the duct system whether it be with<br />01:42 computer equipment or just a visual<br />01:44 inspection<br />01:45 [Music]
