The area of Amazon rainforest that was destroyed by fire in just the month of August is as large as 4 million soccer fields.<br />That's according to Brazil's National Institute for Space Research on Tuesday.<br />Almost 30-thousand square kilometers of rainforest burned down last month.<br />That's five times more than in the same month the year before and is also the largest amount burned in a month in the past nine years.<br />Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said on Monday that he will discuss the Amazon fires at the next U.N. General Assembly later this month.<br />Often referred to as the lungs of the planet, the Amazon rainforest produces a fifth of the oxygen on Earth.<br />
