Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman repeated his objection to a proposed increase to the retirement age to 65, arguing that this would be detrimental to youth employment and career advancement.<br /><br />The minister said that on Thursday and claimed such a move would reduce the number of new job openings and slow down the promotions of younger employees.<br /><br />Syed Saddiq also refuted claims that Malaysians are unemployed due to low wages rather than a lack of jobs, saying higher salaries would be pointless for the youth if they do not have job opportunities.
