HELSINKI — German aviation startup company Volocopter successfully performed a test flight at Helsinki Airport on August 29.<br /><br />The company used the Volocopter 2X, its second-generation flying electric vehicle which has 18 propellers and takes off and lands vertically, to perform the test flight. <br /><br />Volocopter's website says that the flying vehicle is powered by electric batteries and has a range of around 27 kilometers with speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour. It can carry up to two people.<br /><br />The vehicle had to perform under different test scenarios which included ground tests, manned and unmanned flights, according to a press release by Volocopter.<br /><br />The air taxi was able to take off while being connected to the airport's air traffic control system and exchange data in real time.<br /><br />The vehicle will have another test flight in Germany on September 14. <br /><br />According to Volocopter's website, the company is planning to build Volo-Ports, or air terminal stations, where passengers can catch a ride on one of its flying vehicles.<br /><br />The company plans to present its Volo-Port structure in Singapore later this year.
