A digger cleans up debris from Typhoon Faxain in Fukuura island, northern Japan, on Monday (September 9).<br /><br />The quay in Kanazawa Ward was strewn with fallen trees, rocks, collapsed fences and debris after being battered by gusts of more than 100mph.<br /><br />Storms hit the region before moving south to the capital Tokyo in the early hours of Monday morning, causing havoc for thousands of locals.<br /><br />Almost 20,000 passengers were stranded overnight at Tokyo's Narita Airport after Typhoon Faxai smashed into it with winds of more than 200 km/h.<br /><br />More than 130 flights were cancelled while roads and rail links were also affected, leaving many without transport.<br /><br />At least three people were killed by the typhoon and dozens more injured.
