New ‘SNL’ Cast Members<br />Receive Mixed Reactions.<br />NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ recently announced the addition<br />of three new cast members to their popular late night show. .<br />Comedians Chloe Fineman,<br />Shane Gillis and Bowen Yang are<br />slated to become feature players<br />in the upcoming 45th season. .<br />Yang, who has been a writer for the sketch<br />show since September 2018, will be the<br />show’s first Chinese-American regular.<br />His hiring has been praised as an important step<br />forward, as there has only been a total of six Asian<br />or Asian-American hosts in the history of the show.<br />On the other hand, Gillis has been at the center<br />of controversy since the announcement of his hiring.<br />A 2018 clip currently circulating online features<br />Gillis making racist comments against the Asian<br />community as well as many other groups. .<br />He has since issued<br />an apology, saying he<br />is a “comedian who<br />pushes boundaries.” .<br />It is not yet known whether<br />the unearthed comments will<br />affect NBC’s hiring of Gillis.
