The virus, which is <br />spread by mosquitoes, causes <br />potentially fatal brain swelling. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, specific treatment is unknown. Thanks to a GoFundMe created for Sophia, $170,000 has been donated for her medical stay. According to the fundraising page, she is now in fair condition at a Boston hospital. The CDC adds that there are up <br />to 10 cases each year in the U.S. In 2019, signs of EEE have mostly popped up in the Northeastern section of the country.
