Tsunami evacuation site left abandoned in Indonesia

A temporary evacuation site built by the national disaster management authority in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia has been left abandoned.<br /><br />The video, filmed on July 20, 2019 shows the alarming conditions of the graffiti covered site due to local authorities not maintaining the building.<br /><br />The filmer told Newsflare: “some devices such as electrical installations and tsunami early warning sirens are lost or stolen.”<br /><br />The site was built in 2009 after a 7.6 earthquake shook Padang City and will be the place of evacuation for thousands of residents in the event of an earthquake or tsunami.<br /><br />According to Republika, despite the destruction caused by Palu tsunami in 2018, which reminded Padang residents of their geological vulnerability, the evacuation site remains neglected.
