Rescue workers were today (September 23) battling to save two people trapped inside a collapsed hotel in the Philippines.<br /><br />Several people were seriously injured when the Hotel Sogo building collapsed at around 9.30 am local time in the Malate area of the capital Manila.<br /><br />It is understood to have been unused at the time and awaiting demolition when the incident happened.<br /><br />Officials said the two men trapped inside the rubble were Jerome Fabello and Melo Izon. Fire crews were battling to free them this afternoon. <br /><br />The Manila Public Information Office said that a nearby hospital had been put on alert to accommodate those injured.
