US Abortions at Lowest Level Since Roe v. Wade New research shows that the
level for 2017 was at 13.5 per
1,000 American females. That is the lowest rate
since the landmark Supreme Court
case was decided in 1973. Calculations were made by research organization Guttmacher Institute. It based its age range
on women from
15 to 44 years old. According to CBS, 2017's abortion level is 54 percent lower than in 1980. Guttmacher attributes the fall to an overall declining pregnancy rate. According to the report, all regions
of the U.S. are showing declines. Rates have fallen the most in
U.S. states where more
abortion-providing facilities
have closed. In Texas alone, the rate fell
three percent from 2014 to 2017. This is in connection to the
state decreasing its number
of facilities by nine.
