BEIJING — China is planning to roll out new controls on tobacco liquid and additives for vaping amid the hype over deaths and illnesses connected to e-cigarettes.

The China News Service said on Tuesday, citing unidentified sources at the State Tobacco Monopoly, that new rules would be introduced as early as next month and will cover e-cig devices and packaging.
According to the AP, India banned sales of e-cigs this month and regulators in the U.S. and other countries are imposing controls following vaping deaths and complications.

China is home to the world's biggest tobacco market, with around 350 million smokers.
According to CNS, vaping companies in China invested at least $140 million in 2018, while 35 deals were made in the first half of the year.

China banned sales of e-cigs to people under 18 in August of 2018. Well, that's kind of a no-brainer.
CNS also reported that In July, the country's National Health Commission said studies found aerosol from vapes contained toxic elements and that additives could pose a health risk.
Funny thing is, if people and governments are so concerned about preventable deaths, why isn't everyone up in arms over smoking?
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention, good old fashioned cigarettes cause more than 7 million deaths a year.

But yeah, let's continue that crackdown on vaping.
