Mist formed over mountains and children wrapped up in coats as an unseasonal cold spell hit northern Thailand on Friday (September 27). <br /><br />Forecasters warned that cold and windy weather will hit northern parts of the country over the weekend - with the chilly spell lasting until Tuesday. <br /><br />The temperature dropped to 9 degrees Celsius on the peak of Doi Inthanon mountain in Chiang Mai, a popular destination for tourists. <br /><br />Locals wore coats and hats this morning to stay warm during the cold spell.<br /><br />Weatherman Thanawut Panjaporn-udomlap said a high pressure system from China had caused the unexpected cold weather.
