Dangerous levels of smog returned to Bangkok on Monday (September 30) after unseasonal stagnant weather and a lack of rain.<br /><br />Thick haze blanketed the Thai capital sending air pollution levels soaring to 250 micrograms per cubic of PM2.5 particles. The safe level is 50.<br /><br />The country's Pollution Control Department blamed a large high pressure cell which has stifled wind and rain which would normally clear the dust.<br /><br />Officials advised young children, pregnant women, the elderly and sick people to stay indoors. People leaving their homes were told to wear face masks.<br /><br />In February this year, the city suffered for more than a month after debilitating levels of air pollution left thousands of residents coughing up blood.
