Skydiver dies after hitting big rig trailer on California highway

LODI, CALIFORNIA — A 28-year-old woman is sadly no longer around after a skydiving accident involving a big rig trailer on a busy Northern California highway. <br /><br />According to California Highway Patrol, Maria Vallejo, of Colombia, was skydiving with a group of seven people last Thursday around 2 p.m.<br /><br />Authorities say conditions were windy when the group took off from the Lodi Parachute Center at the Lodi Airport. <br />As the group was descending, Vallejo was unfortunately caught up in a large gust of wind. <br />A witness told KCRA, that a big gust of wind pushed Vallejo away from the landing zone, and sent her careening toward heavy traffic on California Highway 99 in Acampo. <br />The wind pushed Vallejo until she slammed into a big rig trailer that was driving down the highway. <br />After hitting the trailer, she bounced off and then crashed into the shoulder of the highway. CHP said she was pronounced dead at the scene. <br />According to the owner of the Lodi Parachute Center, Vallejo was an experienced skydiver with 155 jumps. <br />According to CNN, the CHP is now investigating the incident.
