MGM Agrees to
$800 Million Settlement to
Las Vegas Shooting Victims The Oct. 2017 shooting carried
out by Stephen Paddock led
the death of 58 people and
close to a thousand injured. In the days leading up to the attack,
Paddock stockpiled an arsenal of
weapons in his suite at the MGM
Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Paddock's suite overlooked concert
grounds hosting a country music festival.
From the vantage point of the MGM suite,
Paddock opened fire upon thousands of festival-goers. A myriad of lawsuits filed against
MGM have claimed the company
was negligent by allowing Paddock
to stockpile his weapons. The settlement would resolve
“substantially all” of the claims of
negligence against MGM pertaining
to the mass shooting. Lawyers for the victims have
lauded the settlement, saying
it "represents good corporate
citizenship" by MGM. Robert Eglet, Victims Lawyer,
via 'The New York Times'
