One of the largest aerospace and defense exhibitions in Northeast Asia,... 2019 Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition or ADEX... kicked off this morning,... featuring the latest in military technology.<br />And with a sneak peak at the exhibition,...our Kim Ji-yeon joins us on the line.<br />So Ji-yeon, tell us more about ADEX 2019.<br />Participants at the event, which is in its 12th installment, can experience the latest technology in aerospace and other weapons systems.<br />Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon... in his opening speech this morning... praised the rapid development of the defense industry since the 1970s.<br />He stressed the need to raise defense capabilities to cope with changing trends and new forms of threat.<br />During the six-day event... various programs are taking place at Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do Province.<br />Spectators can get a close view of the fifth-generation stealth fighter jets... the F-35As which were unveiled to the public earlier this month... as well as a light-armed helicopter which shows off its mobility at the event for the first time.<br />But the highlight of the opening day is a mock-up of the envisioned indigenous cutting-edge fighter aircraft being developed under Korea's 7-and-a-half-billion U.S. dollar KF-X project, which has been revealed for the very first time.<br />Many have said that its appearance is similar to the F-35A fighter jet.<br />Korea Aerospace Industries says the homegrown jet boasts a maximum speed of around 22-hundred kilometers per hour.<br />It's equipped with an Active Electronically Scanned Array or AESA radar system... which improves coverage and performance.<br />The aircraft can carry up to 77-hundred kilograms of weapons... including the country's Taurus long-range air-to-surface cruise missile... currently in development.<br />Back to you.<br />
