South Korea's rice production for this year is estimated to be around 3-point-8 million tons.
This is the fourth consecutive year that rice production has seen a decrease and is the lowest amount produced in almost four decades.
According to Statistics Korea, this is a 2-point-3 percent decrease from last year.
The drop is due to less land being used for rice farming, and a lower production per square kilometer due to the recent Typhoon Lingling.
The storm struck Korea during the ripening season for rice grains.
Experts predict that demand for rice will be greater than supply, causing prices to increase.
