As a little girl, I remember already knowing that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. <br /><br />I started out singing other people's songs, being influenced early on by the oldies. Johnny Cash was my first real influence in vocal, guitar and songwriting style. The deeper I got into the oldies, the more I felt as if I had been born in the wrong time. In my early teens, I really fell in love with music from the 50's and early 60's, especially doo-wop and the soul and R&B music of the time. <br /><br />The music from that time enchanted me, and still does. I wanted to write my own songs, but it wasn't enough to sing them. I wanted control of the music behind them. So I learned some basic chords on the guitar to start out. I started out as a self-taught guitarist and over time developed my own unique style of playing. <br /><br />Around the age of eighteen, I discovered the true power of my voice. I started to gain influence from powerhouses like Grace Slick, Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks, while my songwriting became very heavily influenced by songwriters like Leonard Cohen, Simon & Garfunkel and Donovan. Til this day, I can still say that Cohen's music reigns supreme in my heart. I am now studying the classical guitar in college, and could not be more in love with this instrument.
