It Would Take 2.8 Million Years<br />to Earn as Much as Jeff Bezos Quartz News recently calculated what<br />it would take for the average worker to<br />reach Jeff Bezos’s $130 billion fortune. According to a 2018 survey<br />by the U.S. Bureau of Labor, the<br />average full-time worker in the<br />United States makes $46,800. Assuming that person spends no money<br />on rent, bills or taxes, it would take more<br />than 21,000 years to save $1 billion. That’s the same amount of time it’s taken for civilization<br />to evolve from cave-dwelling inhabitants to current day. To reach $130 billion, it would take almost<br />2.8 million years of work, which is 10 times<br />longer than the existence of homo sapiens. The comparison is even bleaker for those<br />who work for Bezos’s company, Amazon. The lowest paid, full-time worker at<br />Amazon makes about $31,200 annually. That means they would need to work for<br />4.15 billion years to earn as much as Bezos.
