This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Busan-Masan Democratic Protests... and the national held its first commemorative ceremony of the protests today.<br />During the ceremony,... President Moon Jae-in revisited the idea of democracy, saying the people are now calling for further advancements in the country's democracy.<br />"Together with the people, we will move forward to create a democracy where people can truly become the owners of the nation, where national achievement translates to better livelihoods for the people."<br />He called on the nation's government institutions.... to bear in mind that they exist to serve the people.<br />Moon also promised that the government will provide compensation to the victims of the protests,... and expressed his condolences and apologies for the human rights violations that occurred.<br />
