A 6-point-4 magnitude earthquake struck a southern island in the Philippines.<br />According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the powerful quake occurred sixty-nine kilometers north, northwest of General Santos on Mindanao island on Wednesday.<br /> It was detected at around 7:37 PM local time,... so reports of casualties and damages have not yet been confirmed.<br />Authorities did not issue a tsunami alert after the tremor.<br />The Philippines is located within the Pacific "Ring of Fire," where there is intense seismic activity stretching from Japan through Southeast Asia and across the Americas. <br />
