Common Joint Pain Therapy <br />Could Be Harmful, Says Study.<br />Conducted by researchers <br />at the Boston University of Medicine, the <br />report was published in the journal, 'Radiology.'.<br />It found that corticosteroid <br />injections administered in the knees <br />and hips could actually speed up osteoarthritis.<br />Long-term effects could also <br />speed up the need for joint <br />replacement surgeries.<br />The intra-articular corticosteroid injections in the hips and knees are not as safe as we thought, Ali Guermazi, Lead Study Author, via NBC News.<br />The injections are intended to <br />reduce inflammation and pain.<br />According to the study, 8 percent of <br />the 459 patients who received <br />one to three injections of the <br />therapy developed complications.<br />Osteoarthritis is a chronic condition <br />affecting 30 million Americans.<br />Doctors recommend noninvasive <br />treatments such as exercise, weight loss <br />and physical therapy before trying injections
